Kim lives in North East Aberdeenshire, Scotland with her two Labrador Retrievers.

She believes that the bond between dog and owner, through leadership, is paramount in any training; without trust, training can become very difficult.

Dogs are pack animals and understand leadership. To live with your dog in harmony it has to become obvious for your companion that there are boundaries and rules.

This is not to be mistaken with dominance; leaders are calm, consistent, patient, respectful and can be trusted.

Having owned and trained dogs for years, Kim has also spent 18months deepening her knowledge and understanding how dogs learn by successfully completing Lez Graham’s Accredited Pet Gundog Instructor programme.

When training with Doric Country Dogs, you will discover how to communicate with your dog in a positive and fun filled way. Kim will instruct you how to use different energy levels to engage with your dog and encourage him to focus on you.

During your lesson she will help you to understand the way dogs learn, how to use your voice and body language to make your dog understand what you want him to do. Kim will include play, touch and also explain the importance for your dog to be able to do ‘nothing’ and relax.

Owning a dog is easy but building a relationship with your companion and train him to the point where he becomes a joy to have around is a long-term task.

Training your pet gundog to work with his inherent skills in a controlled way will enable your dog to be a happier and more enriched being; it will become the dog that it was originally bred to be, enjoying working alongside its human.

If your pet gundog is an adult, please don’t think that it cannot learn these skills. Kim trained her dog at the age of 6½ to successfully retrieve and have fun out on walks by retrieving hidden and thrown dummies. An older dog can certainly learn new tricks.
